Here’s a classic Poor Man’s Steak recipe—an easy and budget-friendly dish that tastes like a steak but is made with ground beef.
Ingredients:
• 2 lbs ground beef
• 1 cup cracker crumbs (or bread crumbs)
• 1 cup milk
• 1 small onion, finely chopped
• 1 tsp salt
• ½ tsp black pepper
• ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
• 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
• ½ cup water
Instructions:
1. Prepare the beef mixture:
• In a bowl, combine the ground beef, cracker crumbs, milk, onion, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
• Mix well and shape into a rectangular loaf. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to firm up.
2. Slice and brown:
• Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
• Slice the chilled meatloaf into patties or steak-like pieces.
• Heat a skillet over medium heat and brown both sides of the patties in a little oil (no need to cook through).
3. Bake with gravy:
• Place browned patties in a baking dish.
• In a bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup with water and pour over the steaks.
• Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour.
4. Serve:
• Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Enjoy!
